Had a great experience seeing Dr Glancy and specialist nurse Barbara earlier this week at UHD Paediatric Outpatients. They were both very professional and approachable. Barbara was great fun and our daughter is still talking about her now.
I had little expectation of the appointment, considering peanut allergy is usually a lifelong condition with no real cure or treatment. I could not be more wrong. We have received some very useful information which would make a crucial difference if our daughter had anaphylaxis again and I now feel very confident managing her allergies.
Five star service for sure, but with one significant pitfall - the waiting list. It took us almost 2 years to get to the end of the "urgent" waiting list. Yes we spoke to the GP and yes we had an allergy action plan and adrenaline pens while we were waiting for the appointment, but all in all I think that if our daughter had had anaphylaxis we would probably have struggled to identify it and would have been lacking confidence to manage it effectively in a timely manner. Luckily she did not have a reaction within the past two years, but the thought of it and what could possibly happen is scary.
"Received some very useful information"
