"Hospital in patient"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / General Surgery Craigavon Area Hospital / Trauma Ward

(as a carer),

My mother had a nasty fall.  Sustained broken wrist and broken ankle in 2 places. In hospital for last 2 weeks as unable to go home without a care package.

Although the nurses and caring staff have done their best given their working conditions, it has taken 2 weeks to get surgery which was meant to happen, only to be cancelled at the last minute.

The last 2 weeks have been very frustrating due to miscommunication, being told different things by different doctors, multiple moves, as below 65 my mum is not a priority.

Very disappointed given circumstances and cancellation of operation as day ended. Being given the wrong information on phone as was told mum was away to surgery when in fact she wasn’t then op cancelled.

Hello

Thank you for taking the time to give the orthopaedic ward staff your feedback.

I apologise that it had taken 2 weeks for your mother to receive her surgery. With the demand on the service and available theatre space there is a system in place where patient's name are placed in order of emergency and date of injury to ensure they receive surgery in as timely a manner as possible.

I will discuss with the ward staff concerning giving relatives clear accurate information to improve communication that patient's next of kin receive,

I trust that you mother is recovering from her fall and sustained injuries.

Kind regards

Clinical sister

Hello,

My name is Rachel and I am the Ward Sister on the Trauma Ward. Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.

I apologise that your mother had to wait 2 weeks to receive her surgery, I appreciate the worry this may have caused her and yourself. Unfortunately with the demands on the service and theatre availability there is a process in place where patients are operated on in order of emergency basis and dates of injury.

I understand the frustration the miscommunication may have caused you and I apologise for this. I will discuss with the ward staff the importance of ensuring patients and relatives are given clear and accurate information to hopefully improve communication. Please know that all patients are priority to us regardless of age.

I wish your Mother well and hope she has a speedy recovery.

Best wishes,

Rachel
