"Still no wiser as to the results"

About: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Day Surgery Unit Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Endoscopy

(as a service user),

I was worried all the way up to the day I received the procedure.

About the questions relating to my bowel condition and the possibility that may be cancer.

I was treated well in the hospital as a day patient -  staff were very helpful and the consultant who carried out the procedure was approachable and told me what he was doing.

I found the procedure very painful, which was a surprise as I was led to believe by family and friends who had undergone the procedure that was at most uncomfortable.

This is not how I experienced it.

There was no sign of cancer, which was good to hear and see.

There were however some signs of damage which could have been causing my symptoms.

A biopsy was taken and sent away with the instruction that it was urgent.

I was given a detailed copy of the report from the procedure and told to contact my GP for the results of the biopsy.

After two weeks I started contacting my GP and was told each time that there was nothing in relating to the biopsy for a further two weeks I have checked in with my GP surgery.

Finally, I phoned up nearly a month after the procedure to the clinic itself but I was told that the results were in  but that they could not give them over the phone

It seemed that the delay was due to the clinic or the consultants office not getting the results over to my GP.

The not knowing whether the biopsy indicated cancer or not has been a worry. I feel it went on unnecessarily long when they’ve had the results back for some .

I’ve still not had the result and will go back to chasing up my GP practice to see if they’ve received anything from the clinic/consultants office.

Seems a bit crazy and outdated to still continue to use outdated systems for communicating between departments or branches of NHS.

So to wrap it all up, I’m still no wiser as to the results of the biopsy and feel that I could’ve been sent the results myself by email or a telephone call.

Would have saved all this continued hassle
