"My 6 year old Son put at ease"

About: South Tyrone Hospital / Minor Injuries Unit Southern Health & Social Care Trust / Urgent Care Centre (Phone First)

(as a parent/guardian),

At 19:05 my 6 year old son knocked his head with force of the breakfast bar causing a 2-3cm open bleeding wound to his forehead. I applied pressure with a cloth and phoned phone first. I gave our details and was phoned back within minutes and offered advice / an appointment at minor injuries at South Tyrone Hospital.

The appointment was for 20:00. We left the house, stopped at shop to get calprofen on the way and arrived to minor injuries at 19:45. We checked in at reception and within a few minutes were called. My son has additional needs and was very reluctant to let anyone see him. Without knowing this Donal was incredible making him smile and joking with him about halloween candy / frozen pizza. I didn't see the badge on the nurse helping him but she was gently persistent he lay down which he wouldn't for me.

Another nurse Tracey came out and with all the fuss created my son was treated and he didn't even realise. From start to finish the service was incredibly efficient and we were treated with compassion.

Thank you to everyone from the phone first team to the Nurses treating my son, you made a very anxious Mum and Son feel supported and at ease.

We are so pleased that your son received the urgent care he needed promptly, which is the aim of our service.

I will ensure the team are all aware of your kind words - we really appreciate them.

We hope your son is on the road to recovery and is feeling much better!
