"Prostate cancer treatment"

About: Cancer Services / Radiotherapy Perth Royal Infirmary / Urology

(as the patient),

I was first diagnosed this year and the attention I received was, quite frankly, outstanding. The scans, consultations, deliberations and treatment were all apace and speedy, without panic but in time. I was most impressed, and the information given to me was comprehensive and comprehensible. I was involved and consulted about all the decisions and informed as to possible outcomes. The staff who cared for me were never hurried, and explained everything as it went on, even during the biopsy, which would have been much more traumatic without their care and gentleness of spirit.

Eventually I had 4 weeks of radiotherapy at Ninewells Hospital Radiotherapy department. The staff there are of the best I have encountered, just as before. I would run out of superlatives, but I will say they were welcoming, caring, professional, empathetic, patient (especially when, because of the side effect of radiation, I had to rush from the department to the toilet!) and exceptionally flexible in the appointments and treatment. They are a credit to the NHS and I will always be in their debt. I Have an appointment soon with the consultant to determine the success of the treatment, and will update my comments accordingly. My thanks to you all.

Many thanks for taking time to share your experience with the team. Going through a process of being diagnosed with cancer is a worrying time and requires a dedicated team to provide a service that is considerate to your needs and timely for your diagnosis. This will be shared with our team.

Dear Sherab1, thank you for taking the time to feedback your experience of our Radiotherapy Department. My name is Bob, one of the Support Workers who would have welcomed you to our department.

I am so pleased that you felt so well informed and cared for prior to your visits to Radiotherapy. To hear that we then provided you with ‘the best staff you have encountered’ is something that we will be proud of and I will certainly pass on your kind words, thank you.

On behalf of everyone here, I hope you benefit from your treatments and wish you well for the future.

Kind regards... Bob
