"Pressures on space, but wonderful staff"

About: Worthing Hospital / Accident and emergency Worthing Hospital / General medicine

(as a relative),

My husband needed to attend A&E due to a severe infection developing.

He was triaged and seen very quickly to rule out a common, potentially severe complication and then moved to Urgent Care where the doctor was very thorough and sent him for several scans and tests after discussion with the A&E doctors. He was then moved to A&E minors which was temporarily located in the Children’s A&E while building work is going on.

From there he was discharged and spent the next few days going to ACA where he was treated and the doctors tried to find out what was going on. He was also promptly referred to, and seen by another consultant in a different dept after something potentially worrying was found on an XRay.

All staff were very thorough and kind and took time to talk to and explain things to us, despite working in a dept which is undergoing building work and feels cramped (A&E). Waits for things to happen were fairly minimal given how busy everyone was and the obvious demand on services.

The only issue was the lack of privacy when he needed to discuss personal things with medical staff, but this partly due to the pressures on space caused by the building works and also just the huge demand on services now too.

Things often felt cramped and patients sitting very close together/ sharing drip stands etc. But all staff were wonderful working under these conditions too and really seemed to be doing their best.

Thank you to them all.
