"Reassessing alcohol."

About: Staffordshire Treatment and Recovery Service - STARS / West Team

(as a service user),

I’ve been a heavy drinker for over 30 years. I have raised a family and held down a job but have always realised I have a problem I would need to address at some stage.

Recently my GP became very concerned about my high blood pressure and asked about my drinking. I agreed/jumped at the chance to be referred to Stars.

The first meeting was very cathartic although I didn’t take much action to reduce my intake.

My second resulted in having my first alcohol free day since the 1990s. I then achieved up to 4 consecutive days on a number of occasions.

I’ve now had a third meeting and half way through an attempt at 10 consecutive days.

I’ve said I don’t want to give up alcohol entirely but am now reassessing that.
