"I have so much to be grateful for"

About: Inverclyde Royal Hospital / Accident & Emergency Inverclyde Royal Hospital / Ear, Nose & Throat Inverclyde Royal Hospital / H North (Surgical)

(as the patient),

I was recently admitted with suspected Appendicitis. I was absolutely terrified, with a heart rate of 142, and was prepared for surgery. But I was one of the lucky ones who responded to antibiotics that I didn't need the operation. I felt sick with with worry about needing an operation and having potentially no choice but I had the most supportive team around me.

I was absolutely terrified but I trust Inverclyde Hospital because I have found a favourite nurse who works at that magical hospital and I thought of her everyday and how proud she will be of me that kept me calm and kept me fighting.

Julie at ENT Outpatients deserves the biggest medal. l have spent 25 years with a phobia of anything medical that has controlled my whole life every day but Julie took my pre-op bloods for an op on my ear and since then I have been a totally changed person for the better and it is all thanks to Julie.

From the A&E staff, to the porters, the nurses, the nightshift nurses and all the Drs. Dr Bolln and Matthew, thank you so so much from the bottom of my heart for everything, I am so grateful. Matthew is such a calming, caring Dr and kept me calm in hospital. It was my first admission and it was such a positive experience that if I do need appendix out I will be okay about it. I  have developed the trust with the drs.

To the nightshift nurse, Suzanne, who spent time sitting with me in the night when I was sobbing in agony, thank you so much for your kind words and care that made all the difference to my recovery.

Ward H North is truly a magical ward and it was a pleasure. The NHS makes my heart so full and I am no longer terrified of the NHS. I have so much to be grateful for.

Shout-out to Julie, who I met at all my ENT outpatients appointments. I would have struggled and been terrified if I hadn't met you and developed that friendship. Sometimes a cuddle is everything you need🥰

My phobia is all gone and I can tackle anything medical.

Dear Eva1234,

I'm sorry to hear you were admitted to hospital and were frightened that you may need surgery. I'm very glad to hear however that all of the staff have helped you overcome that fear. Mr Bolln, Matthew and Suzanne are all very grateful for your kind words and that you are feeling much better.

I have passed on your very positive praise to Julie, who I am sure will be delighted to have made such a profound impact on how you view hospitals and helped you overcome your phobia.

I hope you are recovering well at home.

Thanks again on behalf of all the staff for your lovely review.

Heather
