"Wonderful bunch of caring people"

About: Victoria Hospital / Accident & Emergency Victoria Hospital / Day Intervention Unit Victoria Hospital / Ear, Nose & Throat

(as a parent/guardian),

My son had a tonsillectomy and unfortunately started to Haemorrhage recently which resulted in us calling for emergency help.

Paramedics contacted A&E at The Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy who liaised with ENT and we were advised to go into hospital. I was able to drive my son to A&E to free up the ambulance as bleeding has started to slow down.

However when we arrived at A&E bleeding started again and the help we received could not have been better. He was quickly seen by a doctor from A&E and a doctor from ENT arrived soon after and he was moved up to ENT unit. After trying to stop the bleeding, he had to go for emergency surgery.

The staff in ENT and theatre were absolutely amazing. Their care and compassion for not only my son, but me and his dad were out of this world. I was able to go with him while they gave him his anaesthetic and the team in Theatre were fantastic.

The consultants were brilliant and explained what was going on and what they were planning to do to help.

They allowed me to stay overnight with my son and staff in ENT could not be more caring. The way they looked after my son is exactly what any parent would want and they put me at ease too. All staff members, including Dr’s, nurse, clinical support and domestic staff members went out of their way to check we were ok and they made what was a stressful situation for us so much easier.

I cannot thank them all enough for their care and compassion and I think NHS Fife are very lucky to have such a wonderful bunch of people caring for those who need it and who take such pride in their job.

Thank you from the bottom of hearts for looking after us.

Thanks for taking the time to give this very positive feedback, I will ensure it is fed back to the staff in the Emergency Department. I am glad as a family you felt cared for and I hope your son is now recovering well,

Esther
