I have had a condition since childhood that I have been repeatedly told there is nothing that can be done about it. Over the last couple of years it has got increasingly worse culminating in a trip to the GP in tears and a request for help again as I really couldn't cope any longer. I was referred to the Gynaecology team for follow-up and immediately to address the current symptoms. They saw me and dealt with the immediate issue straight away, saw me for follow-up and then referred me for surgery. This was carried out through the Day Surgery Unit and was quick from the referral to surgery.
All stages of this journey I felt listened to and heard. The GP listened to me and rather than telling me what I have been told for the majority of my life, listened to the effect it was having on me and referred me so I could talk through the issues with a specialist. The Gynaecology team have been amazing. When I saw them urgently and was not well, they were reassuring and dealt with the issue straight away. At the follow-up appointment they listened to me and discussed with me the pros and cons and then put me forward for surgery. The Day Unit were friendly and let me know what was going to be happening during the day and the theatre team - the Anaesthetist and Anaesthetic Assistant / Nurse were great (I didn't meet the others). They helped to keep me calm and let me know what they were doing.
Thank you to every person who has been part of this journey. I know that I didn't meet everyone, but they made what could have been a very difficult time smooth and calm.
