"Positive Pathways to Parenting"

About: Children’s Services / Health Visiting

(as a parent/guardian),

During my regular postnatal checks my health visitor told me about the positive pathways to parenting programme that was happening in the local area. I signed up to a few of the different events like the weaning workshop, buggy walks and baby massage.

The weaning workshop was very informative with a lovely open atmosphere where mummies were able to ask questions and have an open discussion. I feel much more confident to be soon starting our weaning journey.

The buggy walk has so far been my personal favourite baby class since becoming a mummy. It gives you the chance to get to know other mums and talk to each other as you’re not in a formal baby class led by an instructor. It’s good to get out in the fresh air and the cup of tea with baby play after is the perfect end!

I still have yet to start the baby massage but I am very excited as I think it will be a lovely bonding time with my baby, but I will also be attending the class alongside some of the other mummy’s I have recently met and got to know through the positive pathways course.

Dear Magkt87,

Thank you for taking the time to give feedback. I am delighted that you followed the health visitor’s advice and signed up for some of the events on the positive pathways to parenting programme and found the weaning session informative. I will pass onto staff that you felt this had an open atmosphere where you were comfortable to ask questions.

It is good to hear that you are enjoying the buggy walks and they have given you an opportunity to get out into the fresh air and meet other parents. That peer support and social contact is so important. Its lovely that you will be also be able to do the infant massage with these other mums.

I’m fairly confident that you will love the infant massage course, touch is so important for babies, gives them comfort and reduces stress levels but it also important for parents, helping you bond and feel relaxed and calm together.

All the staff within the HV team are dedicated to sharing their knowledge and expertise with families and it is so encouraging to have such lovely positive feedback, thank you again for taking the time to do so. This feedback has been shared with them.

Hopefully you continue to enjoy the programme as your little one grows and I wish your family well.

Kind regards,

Joyce McKittrick
