I recently attended Stobhill Hospital (Glasgow) for the removal of a BCC on the bridge of my nose.
From the moment I entered the waiting area I could see how welcoming and efficient the staff were. Everyone was dealt with quickly and in a friendly manner. There seemed to be 4 separate groups- Urology, Ophthalmology, Plastic Surgery and one more.
I was taken to a spotlessly clean ward and didn’t have to wait any time at all before a nurse (Arlene) welcomed me and checked some preparatory details. I was quickly visited by the delightful Mr Reekie, surgeon, who explained what the procedure would involve. He seemed to have 3 morning patients and another 3 in the afternoon, so there was no lengthy waits or bed shortages. There was evidence of several nurses and doctors/ anaesthetists in each group.
My details were checked on several occasions and I was taken into theatre before midday. Everything was explained clearly and I was totally comfortable throughout the procedure. I felt safe and that I was in the hands of experienced and professional staff. I was able to chat throughout and felt complete confidence.
What an excellent experience, topped off by a cup of coffee and a biscuit back in the ward. I witnessed the thorough cleaning of beds as each patient left. Thanks to Arlene, Morag, Hollie and Michelle and to the staff nurses who secured a follow up appointment for me at the Royal Infirmary in one week. Thanks, everyone!
"What an excellent experience"
