"Awful service "

About: West Mendip Community Hospital

I am currently having a disappointing experience at west mendip on the ward with my family member. Despite her clear need for physiotherapy, she is not being provided with any support during my stay. This lack of care contributed to two falls, which could have been easily prevented with proper attention and assistance. The overall neglect of patient safety and inadequate rehabilitation resources left me feeling frustrated and patients unsafe.I would not recommend this hospital for anyone needing proper rehabilitation or support. The facilities are far from stimulating and quite frankly mind numbing for patients. During multiple visits we have only seen domestic staff within the bay.

I am so sorry that your family member has fallen and is having such a bad experience of care at West Mendip hospital and for the anxiety this must be causing them and yourself. As you say, therapy input is hugely important to the safe recovery and wellbeing of patients and I would be keen to get this right in all our community hospitals and will be looking into this issue so thank you for raising this. I would also like to make sure your family member and yourself are sufficiently supported going forward (from your email it feels like your family member is still an inpatient?) and would ask that you contact either the ward manager or matron when you are next in and/or myself (Debra Nash - email debra.nash@somersetFt.nhs.uk or 07785696137). Thanks again for raising this
