In late September I found myself having to present at A&E with medical emergency, I could not get out my sons car for vomiting and shaking from fever. My teenage son ran into reception desk to call for help mentioning something re being septic which was acted on immediately by staff.
I was rapidly assessed, and it was spotted by the team I was in septic shock and was quite poorly.
My BP started to drop quickly and I had an impending doom feeling that I was going to die!, as a nurse myself I could hear and see things around me that I knew was not good, at that point I started to panic!.
As I was confused some of the names have left me from that time however, I wanted to say thank you to the doctor that reassured me that they had complete control over the situation and that, yes I was poorly but was not going die, and was in the safest place I could be, I believed in what she said and started to calm.
Massive thank you to the nurse Matthew for listening to me as a patient and not someone that knew what the medical chat around myself was! As well as wiping the tears from my eyes when I was full of fear, true demonstration of empathy, care and compassion for someone in a time of distress. I cannot thank all the staff in A&E enough.
Following from A&E I was taken to theatre where again the recovery team were fantastic.
I further spent four days in SHDU under the care of the HDU doctors and the gynaecology team.
The standard of care in SHDU was to a high level. I was looked after by Lynn who's experience and professionalism to nursing stands out a mile, I was in safe hands. Further thank yous to Mida and Jamie who were great as well as the whole staff team. I felt completely safe at well looked after at all times.
Special thanks to Mr Huddura and the Gynae consulting team, alongside staff in ward 24. I cannot thank you all enough for the amazing level of care and treatment I received in what was a very scary time for myself. I feel like the team went above and beyond.
I still am recovering at home which I am truly thankful for, and it's all down to the excellent care and treatment from all the above people and departments in Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy. Thank you so much, you are all amazing at what you do.
