"Sincere gratitude to the whole surgical team & nursing staff"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Emergency Department University Hospital Hairmyres / Intensive Care Unit University Hospital Hairmyres / Medicine for the Older Adult (wards 13 - 16)

(as a service user),

I was referred to Hairmyres hospital A&E one evening in early October by my GP Dr Piper due to suspected diverticulitis.

I had a CT scan around 7pm and by midnight I was in theatre having major surgery to remove my colon resulting in an ileostomy.

I wish to express my sincere gratitude to the whole surgical team and also the nursing care afterwards in HDU/ICU and ward 13.  Mr Chin was the first person to explain the situation to me and he went out of his way to see me each day and check on my progress, even asking how my partner was coping. He phoned my partner before surgery and was aware of how traumatic the situation was for myself and my family. He was so thoughtful and caring but professional throughout.

I also want to specifically mention Mr DiRollo, the surgeon who did the operation. He was truly amazing and literally saved my life. He also checked up on me daily and was always there to reassure me and answer any questions. He made me feel that I was his only patient and always had time for me. His bedside manner was lovely. He would sit beside me and talk things over ensuring that I was comfortable with the procedures/outcomes. I never felt that I was an inconvenience.

The after care received by all the nursing staff was brilliant and couldn't have been any better. They were all so helpful, caring and supportive throughout my recovery

Dear Oncloud9

Thank you for taking the time to share such positive feedback regarding your recent surgery. It sounds like you have been very unwell requiring major surgery. Mr Chin and Mr DiRollo will appreciate your kind words and recognition of the care they provided for both you and your partner. They both work hard to provide person centred care and will be delighted that you felt they explained procedures and provided reassurance.

Your comments and gratitude will also be shared with the nursing teams. Thank you again.

I wish you well in your journey of recovery.

Kind regards

Lise
