I was referred to Hairmyres hospital A&E one evening in early October by my GP Dr Piper due to suspected diverticulitis.
I had a CT scan around 7pm and by midnight I was in theatre having major surgery to remove my colon resulting in an ileostomy.
I wish to express my sincere gratitude to the whole surgical team and also the nursing care afterwards in HDU/ICU and ward 13. Mr Chin was the first person to explain the situation to me and he went out of his way to see me each day and check on my progress, even asking how my partner was coping. He phoned my partner before surgery and was aware of how traumatic the situation was for myself and my family. He was so thoughtful and caring but professional throughout.
I also want to specifically mention Mr DiRollo, the surgeon who did the operation. He was truly amazing and literally saved my life. He also checked up on me daily and was always there to reassure me and answer any questions. He made me feel that I was his only patient and always had time for me. His bedside manner was lovely. He would sit beside me and talk things over ensuring that I was comfortable with the procedures/outcomes. I never felt that I was an inconvenience.
The after care received by all the nursing staff was brilliant and couldn't have been any better. They were all so helpful, caring and supportive throughout my recovery
"Sincere gratitude to the whole surgical team & nursing staff"
