"Emergency Appendix Operation"

About: Brannam Medical Centre NHS 111 (South West) North Devon District Hospital / General surgery North Devon District Hospital / Surgical Assessment Unit North Devon District Hospital / Theatres

(as a service user),

After a couple of days of feeling unwell, nauseas and abdominal pain I contacted NHS 111, I was referred to the GP Dr Roger at Brannam Medical Practice in Barnstaple, who quickly diagnosed me with suspected appendicitis. He contacted the surgical ward directly at Barnstaple North Devon District Hospital and instructed me to go directly to the ward.

On being received on The King George 5th Ward I was triaged and bloods taken, which came back with infection indicators, I was then sent for a CT scan that further confirmed the diagnosis.

I was then operated on the next morning. I was so impressed with the swift action of each point of contact. I was kept in hospital for 5 days to ensure my infection level showing in my bloods had significantly reduced.

The staff at NDDH was brilliant, professional, caring and friendly, despite being incredibly busy.
