"Waiting 36 weeks for a referral"

About: General practices in Lanarkshire University Hospital Monklands / Gynaecology

(as a service user),

Well, congratulations to NHS Lanarkshire- talk about reducing your waiting list.

Went to GP with an issue in August 2023.

She wrote a one sided write up in notes, having been told about a previous incident.

Returned to GP in March 2024 with the same issue still there.

Referred to Gynaecologist same day

First appointment - November 2024.

Apparently, someone, God alone knows who downgraded the referral.

Thanks, whoever it was.

Congratulations.

I assume that you are working on the theory that waiting 36 weeks for a first appointment means that it won’t require any treatment and it’s all in my head.

Dear Hazleh,

Thank you for sharing your experience of University Hospital Monklands Gynaecology Department.

I am sorry to hear of the long waiting time you have had causing you to be understandably distressed. Unfortunately, our services are under extreme pressures at the moment and our staff are working as quickly and safely as possible to see and treat patients.

If you would like to discuss the waiting times further then please contact our Patient Affairs team on the below details.

Update posted by Hazleh (a service user)

For clarity, my wait was 36 weeks, the published median wait on nhs website 18 weeks. Wait in greater Glasgow on above website for same department 8 weeks. It feels like a complete insult.

I have already contacted patient services - they say they will respond before the appointment date… says it all.
