I am in my eighties. I have a Covid and flu vaccine every six months; receiving them around now in the winter. Unusually I had heard nothing about my vaccines this winter. I visited my local (rural area in Scotland) Health Centre to find out when I may expect the vaccine. I was informed the system had been changed this time (local Health Board conducting it), and I would be informed in due course; but I was given a telephone number, in case communication to me had gone astray this time. At this point a nurse representing the new operation appeared (it happened they were vaccinating a different cohort, not vaccinated in the Spring at the Health Centre that day).
Nurse Karen stepped in, asked me to wait for a short while; returned, took my details for the system, and administered both vaccines before I left. It was a brilliant improvisation, and example of NHS care of a high standard; and I wish to commend Karen and the team. I had simply gone to the Health Centre to establish when I may expect to receive an appointed day.
"A brilliant improvisation"
