"The staff were outstanding"

About: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / General Medicine Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / High Dependency Unit & Intensive Care Unit Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Transplants

(as the patient),

Earlier this year I was admitted to Edinburgh Royal Hospital from Glasgow with acute liver failure. I underwent two emergency liver transplants - the first transplant wasn’t successful but the second worked and I eventually went from spending several weeks in ICU to HDU then eventually to a general ward.  All in all I spent five and a half months in hospital.

The staff in all 3 of the wards were outstanding and the treatment that not only I received but my family was tremendous and I couldn’t fault any members of staff.

During my stay in the various wards there were many complications requiring different treatments and again I was treated with absolute respect and dignity.

The nurses in particular in all 3 of the wards were so lovely and caring and never once did I feel my treatment was in any way compromised. Medications and any treatment plans were fully explained to me prior to being carried out and anything I needed or asked for was given in a lovely and friendly manner.

The transplant unit itself is run so well between the doctors, nurses and every other member of staff I came into contact with being so professional and courteous.  I honestly couldn’t fault the unit at all.

Being someone who had never been an inpatient before in any hospital this experience was such a positive one for myself and my family.  I can’t thank all the staff of the transplant unit enough for giving me such a positive experience and just being so caring and helpful at such a difficult time in my life.
