I was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Wishaw after feeling drowsy, confused and off balance. My balance has not been great since having a stroke in July. My medication was recently changed by CPN and I wondered whether this was the cause of my symptoms.
On arrival to the Emergency Department I was seen by a lovely triage nurse and then placed back in the waiting area in a wheelchair . A short time later I was called from doors next to vending machines by a doctor. There was no offer of assistance!
So I staggered along with my heavy hold-all. I was so embarrassed as there were a lot of people in the waiting room. I found the doctor to be quite dismissive and did not show me any care and compassion. I have an extensive medical history, and I was discharged home with venflon still in my arm.
I understand the hospital is extremely busy and staff are under pressure but a little care and compassion goes a long way.
