"Lacking principles of person-centred care"

About: Raigmore Hospital / Cardiology

(as a service user),

I have had the misfortune to have had many contacts with Raigmore Hospital over this year and almost all have left me really upset and feeling a bit helpless.

Little has been done to meet individual need, instead the practice seems to be to get things done in a way that prioritises the needs of the staff. NHS Highland covers large rural area so staff should be accustomed to factoring rurality and best patient experience into their planning.

For example, I had a recent traumatic surgery with Cardiology and I am still in pain, GP is attending to this but the result is that I cannot make a 5 hour round trip to get a piece of equipment and blood test. When I suggested the equipment be posted and blood test done more locally I was told that I would need to ideally attend Inverness in person despite same service previously being offered closer, the equipment is light enough to post, and I am more than capable of fitting it myself.

I'm expecting a call to see if they have changed their minds, but I'm not holding my breath, meanwhile am continuing with the stress of it all.

Dear Phoebe1

Firstly let me sincerely apologise for the delay in acknowledging your post.

I am sorry to hear that you have had such a negative experience following your Cardiac surgery and that other encounters have left you feeling upset and a bit helpless.

Point of care should be provided as locally as possible, however without your details I am unable to review this specifically and provide you with a personal response.

I would be grateful if you could contact NHS Highland Feedback Team via nhshighland.feedback@nhs.scot

This means that the team can review your concerns and investigate why the equipment cannot be posted to you, nor blood tests be taken locally to your home address.

If you have not had a response from the service, and would still wish to pursue this matter please contact us as noted above, or call us on 01463 705997. Someone from the Feedback Team will call you back.

With best wishes

Sylvia
