"Parking issues causing stress"

About: Victoria Hospital / Medical Oncology

(as a relative),

I am retired and my wife is a cancer patient at Victoria hospital kirkcaldy. The stress caused when visiting for her treatment is horrific due to parking issues at this hospital. The limited parking has been an issue for years and it is getting worse due to vehicles using the carpark as a park and ride. The carpark is now on all main bus routes and every day cars are abandoned and drivers get busses to Edinburgh leaving patients and visitors with no parking spaces.

At other hospitals they have dedicated parking for cancer treatment patients and it removes all stress from the cancer journey.

When will the hospital management team get organised and stop the cars being left by bus transport users?

Thank you.

Dear Monocerosmt76,

My name is Murdina Macdonald and I am the Lead Cancer Nurse for NHS Fife. Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns. Navigating a cancer diagnosis and treatment is already a challenging journey, and I am deeply sorry to hear that parking difficulties at Victoria Hospital are adding to your stress.

I recognise the parking issues you’ve mentioned and this has been an ongoing problem. It is especially frustrating to see this impacting patients like your wife, who require easy and stress-free access to the hospital during their treatment.

You’re absolutely right in highlighting that other hospitals provide dedicated parking for cancer patients, and I fully agree that removing this added stress could be beneficial for the well-being of patients going through such a difficult time. Your suggestion for dedicated parking is something I will bring to the attention of the General Manager of the Medical Directorate and our Director of Estates.

While I may not have an immediate solution to the parking problem, please be assured that I will ensure your concerns are shared with the appropriate teams.

Thank you again for sharing your thoughts with us. I will follow up with the management team and advocate for improvements to the parking situation to ensure our cancer patients can focus on their treatment with fewer obstacles.

Wishing you and your wife all the very best as she continues her treatment.

Warm Regards

Murdina
