My second visit to the early pregnancy unit led to a scan and a confirmation that I had miscarried. The lady scanning forgot to ask if I had my partner with me and whether I wanted him to be in the room. As a result , I had to bear the shock of the news alone. Next there was a very long wait to speak to a nurse. There were a few room changes as they were not quite sure which room was free for me to wait in. Finally after an hour a person arrived to speak who was in a robotic no mode throughout.
She delivered the bad news again with a customary regret. For questions on being referred to a clinic for diagnosis as this was my 3rd recurrent miscarriage , about checking my thyroid levels and about getting a sick note, all questions and requests were outright rejected with curt sentence we don’t deal with all that. The meeting was only five minutes but it was made clear from the start that she had no time for me and needs to leave the room as soon as possible. I asked about possible infections as I have suffered from bacterial vaginosis before. She said that was not something they would treat because it’s not even an illness. If I feel I have an infection in my vagina due to remaining tissues, I should talk to my general physician.
That last piece of information is surely incorrect as I have been treated with antibiotics for vaginal infection before. All in all, my experience was poor and I saw a lack of empathy or professionalism at every stage. Real shame. The centre had five or six patients other than me which did not feel overly busy for a large hospital.
