I had been experiencing episodes of pain due to gallstones for four years, since pregnant with my son. I had been on a waiting list for surgery for over a year in NHS GGC but later moved to Lanarkshire. The episodes of pain became more frequent and severe resulting in two trips to A&E.
I then had a final episode of pain so severe that my husband called NHS24 who sent an ambulance.
I was admitted to Hairmyres Hospital and an MRCP confirmed that there were stones in my bile duct, as well as in my gallbladder. I had two unsuccessful ERCPs to try to remove these before it was decided that surgery was necessary. Mr Khan was assigned to my case. He fully explained the medical position and procedure to me.
The surgery was successful, although I understand complex due to there being many stones in my bile duct. Mr Khan advised me that he had been able to remove all stones and my gallbladder effectively using specialist technology. I felt in safe hands throughout.
I received excellent care from the nursing team during my 8 days in hospital too and also from Mr McMillan and his team who was initially assigned as my consultant.
I have recovered very well from the procedure and have been given my quality of life back. I can now eat a normal diet without fear of excruciating pain. I can participate in everything with my children and social events which was a struggle before my surgery.
"I received excellent care"
