"A true blessing of a woman"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Surgical Assessment Unit

(as the patient),

Denise. This is the name of the woman who went above and beyond to make me feel calm and comfortable while I was in the SAU in Larbert

I was treated poorly and was left waiting a long time for pain meds by another staff member

When Denise came on shift she checked in every patient individually and when she got to me I told her my woes. She made it her mission to make sure I was treated properly regularly popped her head in an me to make sure I was ok. Spent time with me explaining things I had not been made aware of

Also I should say I could hear her doing this with all other patients in that day and I know they were all as thankful for her as I was

To top it all off I have coeliacs disease and must eat a gluten free diet. Denise made sure I had a dinner ordered as I had not eaten in over 24 hours. And even when I moved to a different ward it was Denise who turned up with my tray to make sure I got my dinner.

I can honestly say Denise saved me that day I was so down emotionally and physically I spent a lot of the day in tears and in pain and not was not for Denise I do not know how I would have gotten through it.

Thank you Denise

Dear Shugmaglumfer

Our apologies for not replying to your story sooner. I am delighted to read that Denise was able to support and care for you during your stay within the Surgical Assessment Unit. I know Denise will be pleased to read your kind words and appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with us.

I am disappointed that a member of staff treated you poorly and I would like to apologise for this experience, as no staff member should make a patient feel unsupported and not cared for.

Once again thank you for sharing your story about Denise.

I hope you are well and best wishes.

Caroline
