"Frustrated & disheartened"

About: St Andrews Community Hospital / Out of Hours St Andrews Community Hospital / Urgent Care Centre

(as the patient),

Extremely unhappy and disgusted with the staff. I went to the walk-in in St Andrews due to pains in me left chest.

The member of staff on reception went and got a nurse who after explaining the symptomology of what I had, told me to go to my GP as they cannot help me.

I informed the nurse that I could not go to my GP as they opened their diaries up every Wednesday and close them until the next Wednesday.

I asked if I could get my heart rate checked & maybe blood pressure at least, but I was told no. The nurse told me there's nothing more they can do for me.

I could not believe it. I left frustrated & disheartened.

I then contacted Out of Hours and they sent me guess where... back to the St Andrew's walk-in.

Upon arrival I told the nurse who sent me away without checking me that they were a disgrace.

I eventually saw a doctor, who told me my symptoms were not related to a cardiac issue. However, this doctor did not do any checks. I asked for a MRI, but the doctor told me they could do nothing. They told me I needed to go to my GP, as only GP can refer for MRI. I was totally disgusted.

Just like the nurse before them, the doctor did zero checks. No blood pressure, anything. I could of walked out of there and dropped dead.

Absolutely disgusted with the attitude, lack of interest & their total lack of professionalism with zero care. I cannot quite believe how poor they were!

Update posted by bargaincq88 (the patient)

Thank you

It was not my heart after all, it is bad left lung infection. Fluid and inflammation on the lung.

The issue was the amount of struggle I had to go through to get an appointment.

2 walk in visits, 2 111 calls, who then called Ninewells, who then proceeded to tell 111 to tell me to go to my doctor, who after seeing the doctor sent me to Ninewells! I feel the whole thing was a joke.

I can understand now why people just go straight to accident and emergency. I was trying to do the right thing and felt palmed off by everyone.

Extremely poor practice and professionalism from everyone involved.

Dear Bargaincq88,

I am happy to investigate the struggles you had from the urgent care teams in Fife's perspective. Please email me if you wish for this, all I would need would be your date of attendances to the SACH Urgent Care base and a rough time. My email address is Veronica.Hill2@nhs.scot.

Thank you,

Veronica
