"My son’s asthma nurse"

About: Causeway Hospital / Accident & Emergency Causeway Hospital / Paediatric Asthma Nurse Specialist

(as a service user),

My son had two severe asthma attacks in a 6 month period. We were back and forth to A&E and Out Of Hours several times over 3 weeks trying to get the attack under control. It was a horrendously stressful time but all the care we received from staff who treated our son was exceptional. However I did notice either discrepancies between advice given by different staff as we changed hands or sometimes insufficient information, which had I known better how to help my son, maybe would have prevented the attack or got them under control quicker.

We were then referred to Lesley, Asthma Nurse at Causeway Hospital, and her professional expertise and thorough knowledge, firm but gentle and caring approach with myself and my son has now set us on the right track to manage his care more effectively ourselves and hopefully prevent any more serious attacks in future. She is an absolute diamond and wealth of wisdom and information and we could not be more grateful to her. Thank you so much Lesley for taking such excellent care of your junior patients.

Good morning Katiepan

My name is Lynne Vercoe-Rogers and I am the Lead Nurse for Community Children's Nursing and Paediatric Asthma and Allergy Nurses in the Trust.

Thank you for taking the time to send us your feedback. It is lovely to hear that the care you received from the Asthma Nurse Specialist, Lesley, was professional, caring and informative. I appreciate how important it is to be informed and have the appropriate advice for the management of your son's asthma during such a stressful and frightening time. I will ensure to pass on your lovely comments to Lesley, who I know will appreciate them.

However, I am sorry to hear that within other departments you also experienced discrepancy in information, as well as, insufficient information. Your feedback is appreciated and helps us to improve services delivered to children and their families. Therefore, I would be keen to explore these issues further, if you would like to contact me on 0289442400 Option 3 to discuss.

With Thanks

Lynne Vercoe-Rogers
