"Delayed discharge"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Orthopaedic Ward B23

(as the patient),

Very stressful discharge from B23.

My discharge had been planned from the Thursday to take place on either the Saturday or the Sunday. I was ready for discharge on the Sunday by 11am.

I saw  a doctor at 14:30 who couldn’t process my discharge unless sanctioned by a more senior doctor. A senior doctor was not available.

Pharmacy closed at 14:00 so medication was not available.

By 16:00 the doctor was happy having read my notes to let me leave. Medication was given from the ward stock but could not have my oxycodone, which was replaced by DF118.

I finally left the hospital at 17:15.

This was stressful for all concerned, busy doctors, nurses myself and family. This was all so unnecessary as there had been a plan in place since the Thursday.

Since my discharge I developed over the next 3 days a severe drug reaction/allergy covering my whole body  which is thought to be DF118, the only medication I have never had before.

Hi Netbb84,

I can only apologise for the issues you have faced around your discharge. We aim to have all discharges ready as soon as able, and I will feed that back to team.

I hope you are recovering well now.
