In December 2022, I had a traumatic labour experience.
Firstly the most excruciating vaginal examination when I was 10cm dilated in the birthing centre at Simpsons, Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. Then a transfer to labour ward due to the uncertainty of baby's positioning. A long 2nd stage of labour which resulted in trial forceps under spinal block where an episiotomy was performed which unfortunately developed into a 3B tear which was repaired in surgery after 1l blood loss.
The most scary experience of my life.
I am now almost 2 years postpartum with many issues, loss of bladder sensation, leaking from anal sphincter, scar pain, painful sex.
I have been attempting to contact an obstetrician to discuss these problems (I'm seeing a gynaecologist regarding the painful sex issues but currently waiting to hear back to be examined).
My birth notes stated that I should have been offered a 3 month follow with consultant regarding 3rd degree tear. I didn't have this. I had a debrief with the obstetrician regarding the factors that most likely led to the tear but I've never been offered a physical check over by a professional.
I feel very let down by the NHS, I am currently attending counselling for the mental issues that I have been suffering from
"Third degree (3B) tear - persistent symptoms"
