"Hospital Food"

About: Altnagelvin Area Hospital

(as a service user),

The food was far from nutritious, it was dried up and far from tasty.  It could be described as slop some days. Baked beans daily and they come dried up.  For patients who are sick the food is less than appealing and tasty for anyone who is to try to get back on their feet again.  I feel they could do much better for patients.

Hello Julie97,

my name is Joanne and I am the Support Services Manager who has responsibility for the Catering Services within Altnagelvin Hospital. I would like to thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. I was sorry to to hear you felt the food wasn't nutritious nor tasty and to hear that you had a negative experience. Within the Western Trust our menus have been developed in partnership with our Dieticians onsite to ensure all meals meet the dietary and nutritional requirements to enable patients to recover whilst in an acute hospital setting.

We are in the process of changing menus and suppliers, this had an impact on some the choices on offer during this transitional period. Once this transition has fully rolled out a patient survey will be carried out to gather more patient feedback and we will appraise the entire menu and focus on the areas that require improvement.

Kind Regards Joanne Daly
