"Thought it might have happened slightly quicker"

About: Royal Victoria Hospital / Audiology Hearing Aid Department

(as the patient),

I had hearing aids for lot of years but I noticed they weren't as good and I found it much more difficult to hear people in person and on the phone. Had bought aids at Specsavers but in 2022 had significant reduction in hearing test so was referred back to NHS.  My daughter's friend is social worker with folk with hearing loss and she said I should ask about cochlear implant. Was  referred for this in Jan3023. Had various tests which confirmed I was suitable candidate. Had surgery in March 2024. Thought it might have happened slightly quicker but was able to hear some while waiting.

Hi empathyhf73

thank you for your email and summary of your pathway with hearing aids and implant to date. It would seem from your correspondence that you waited over one year for an implant. As there is a specific process required to assess suitability and prepare you for this surgery, it can take some time. I am sorry if you thought this had taken too long. I hope you have found the implant beneficial and please contact the team if you have any problems.

Kind Regards

Ruth Jenkins
