I was admitted through A&E with an infection and osteomyelitis my stay lasted just over 2 weeks.
In my time there I witnessed staff shortages where patients were getting only minimal attention needed.
I had wounds which required dressing daily as per dressing plan provided by District nursing. The staff were unable to get the required dressings from pharmacy so I had to arrange to bring dressings in from my home stock, even then some staff seemed not to understand which dressings to use resting in a patch work of various dressings.
During my last 4 days in hospital I did not have one nurse from the regular ward staff instead they were made up of a miss match of agency staff from various parts of mainland UK.
How can best care be delivered when there is no continuity or care staff or the required dressing items available.
Also an ordinate number of beds were taken up by dementia and elderly patients awaiting care packages and care home places
"Staff shortages = minimal attention"
