"Emergency treatment for an eye problem"

About: Ophthalmology / Ophthalmology Outpatients Area 6A Ophthalmology / Ward 25

(as the patient),

I had been experiencing slight issues with my eye for a few days, flashes and floater, called my opticians who saw and examined me within an hour. My optician called ninewells to ask for a second opinion. They asked to see me straight away, I went to ward 25 for an emergency exam, I was seen straight away by a lovely STR called Ching and a second doctor, they took care of me, and reassured me all the way through, and took the time to explain what was happening, I had an early retinal tear, and was given emergency laser surgery there and then.

This all happened on a Sunday afternoon, by the on-call doctors, I am so so grateful for their care during out of hours, and to receive treatment there and then was incredible. I went back today (2 days later) for a check up and to see if further treatment was required, all the staff at the outpatient area 6b, were fantastic, and I was seen by Doctor Ching again who showed me images of my eye and again took the time to explain what he was seeing and how they were happy with the treatment given so far. I was reassured the whole time and really want to say a massive thank you to Ching for looking after me during a very scary time for me.

I honestly can't say thank you enough for seeing and treating me so quickly.

Dear EmmaDM,

Thank you for your post about your experience of coming to our eye department, both out of hours and for a follow up.

The symptoms you were having must have been very worrying and I am pleased that the reassurance, the explanations and the treatment you received were all so thorough.

I will certainly forward your post to make sure the relevant staff can see how there care has been received so positively.

I hope that you make a full recovery.

Best wishes
