I was sent to A&E by my local out of hours doctor as my throat had swollen so severely I couldn’t swallow or talk. It was a long time in A&E but once I got through, I couldn’t have been better looked after.
The ENT doctor was brilliant, once he’d examined me I was quickly hooked up in resus to try and get the swelling down, and moved up to Ward 29 to continue the drip fed antibiotics until I could swallow again. Turns out it was a severe case of tonsillitis.
By the time I came up to the ward it was in the early hours of the morning but I still had so many staff coming in to attend to me at various stages; from the on duty nurse greeting me when I arrived at early morning, to the nurse taking my information and vitals; the nurse checking my drip and fluids; the doctor checking me every morning to assess my situation; the pharmacist prescribing my antibiotics; the junior nurse with a knack for finding my rubbish veins; and even the meals staff who provided menus and food even though I couldn’t eat any of it.
Overall I was there for two nights and everyone I met there made the experience a lot less scary.
Ward 29 are amazing, thank you all!!!
