"I had to shout at them to stop"

About: North Devon District Hospital / Endoscopy

(as the patient),

I was recently due to have a colonoscopy procedure carried out on myself at the NDDH Barnstaple. This is the 3rd time I’ve unfortunately had to attend the Gemini department at NDDH: a bad experience in 2018, 2023 again a colonoscopy but because of my concern, I was given extra sedation, which made the whole procedure bearable. This time was very much like the first time.

I felt two staff members in endoscopy were arrogant. One was asked to give me a certain dosage of medication and decided that a lower dosage was sufficient. I complained a couple of times of pain and asked them to stop the process as they were unwilling to administer extra medication or even gas and air. On the 3rd occasion I had to shout at them to stop and remove the camera.

I must add the nurses that attended me were fantastic.
