"Great care and service from paediatric team"

About: Paediatrics / Children's Ward 29

(as a parent/guardian),

I ended up in Ninewells with my little boy over the weekend after he was having trouble breathing. This is the first time I’ve had a hospital admission with any of my children and what I expected to be a really awful stressful time was made so much easier by the lovely staff in the paeds department.

My son was looked after so well, the nurses were always checking on him and keeping me informed. The student nurse who was helping look after us, Stacey, was absolutely amazing and went above and beyond. All the staff were fabulous but Stacey was incredible.

The only bit of constructive feedback I’d like to give is, we were only given a bed at around 5.30/6am (not anyone’s fault in paeds as they were fantastic and fast from the second we arrived from PRI), but the lights were switched on and curtains opened at 8am.

We had barely slept, there was one other lady and her baby in the bay who had arrived not too long before us and had also barely had any sleep, it would have been nice if the day staff waited before waking everyone up when we were both exhausted and had come into the ward in the early hours without having any sleep.

Apart from that though everything was brilliant and I’d like to thank all the doctors and nurses for helping my wee one get better.

Dear Em0011,

sorry for taking a little time to respond.

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide such lovely feedback and providing special recognition for our Student Nurse, Stacey.

I will ensure your lovely words are shared with our team.

We try to make children and families time in hospital as stress free as possible, so I am glad you felt this was your experience.

I am sorry that you were unable to rest and sleep after being admitted to the ward, this is always quite challenging when families are admitted overnight and the day routine begins so early. However, I do appreciate such honest feedback and as a team we will think about ways we can be more considerate in terms of rest for exhausted families.

Kind regards

Samantha Russell
