"We would just like some answers"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Acute Short Stay Medicine Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Emergency Medicine Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Renal Medicine (Kidney) Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Urology (Bladder and Urinary problems)

(as a relative),

My partner has been experiencing pain on her right side/back for years. She has been in and out of hospital with no success, she has also even been told that the pain she was feeling was in her head.

However a few months ago we was told at an ultrasound scan that she had a tumour on her kidney.

Still experiencing pain I took her to A&E where she was treated for dehydration the doctor told her she also had 3 smaller tumours on her left kidney. As you can imagine we were both distraught with the news. But still going back and forth with hospital visits this is what was what was being repeated back to us.

Two weeks ago my partner was so ill, hadn’t been able to keep any food or water down for weeks she was in a bad way and was eventually admitted into ward 103 at the ARI Aberdeen. This was where we found out that infact the 3 smaller tumours on her left kidney had been a mistake. We were also told at that time that the tumour on her right kidney was on a blood vessel so no biopsy could be done, however they was 98% sure the tumour was cancerous.

Since being discharged we have heard no news of the meeting the specialist team have had even after phoning the urologist ward. It was only after talking to a GP again that we got told she was infact down for a biopsy. Yet again this being more time waiting and waiting to hear news or a date or any sort of communication from the renal doctors.

As you can imagine this has been a very trying time especially for my partner who already suffers with mental health issues.

We feel we are being greatly disserviced by the nhs at our time in need. Even if we just got some form communication or someone to talk to after feeling constantly in the dark with this situation.

My partner is 30 years old. She is scared and she already suffers with BLP. Along with this constant pain and having to be on OxyContin everyday, we would just like some answers or even a date or to know in writing about even being on a waiting list for a biopsy.

If someone on here could please help shed light on the situation or help put me in touch with somebody. My partner’s health is deteriorating significantly, both mentally and physically.

Thank you.

Good morning Leotp64

I'm sorry to hear of the difficult time your partner has been having.

If you could get your partner to contact us in the UCAN centre on 01224550333 we will see what we can do to support you both. This number takes you to voicemail but if she could leave her name and contact details one of us will call her back as soon as we can.
