About: Musgrave Park Hospital / Orthopaedic Theatre Nurse Specialist Service Outpatients Services / MSK Physiotherapy Outpatients Outpatients Services / Orthopaedic Outpatients Royal Victoria Hospital / Accident & Emergency Royal Victoria Hospital / General Surgery Royal Victoria Hospital / Trauma & Orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I tore cartilage in both knees in my mid twenties during karate training had 2 operations to trim torn cartilage in both knees.

In 2014 I was diagnosed with Osteoarthritis did everything I could to protect my knees.

In late 2023 I started to get a lot of pain and swelling in both knees i received a Cortisone injection in right knee was a good help in reducing pain.

In Feb 2024 I had a Cortisone injection in left knee and within 2 days my knee started to get very painful and badly swollen. had to go to A&E at Royal group of hospitals was admitted. 3 days later I was transferred to Musgrave park orthopaedic hospital.

I had  to have an arthroscopic washout operation under general anaesthetic as I had taken a seriously bad reaction to the Cortisone injection causing a serious acute septic arthritis infection in left knee. 6 days later had to have a second surgery under general anaesthetic this time the surgeon had to perform a 5 inch incision to completely open up my knee to perform another washout.

I was in hospital for a total of 8 weeks and was receiving intravenous antibiotics and painkillers including morphine paracetamol and codeine phosphate 4 times a day during my 8 weeks in hospital.

I am currently still taking painkillers 3-4 times a day. At this point I would like to thank the complete medical teams at both hospitals particularly Mr Mockford at Musgrave park hospital and all the nursing staff for the fantastic care I received during my stay in hospital.

After leaving hospital I started receiving Physiotherapy as an outpatient at the Mater Hospital. Again I would like to thank my Physiotherapist Calvin for the Physiotherapy treatment, care and advice I received  thank you Calvin .

Thank you everyone at all 3 Hospitals for the fantastic care I received. All staff were amazing and I can honestly say I received the most outstanding care from all staff from consultant level to the cleaning staff everyone was amazing,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback on the experience you had while attending the Calvin in the MSK Physiotherapy Department of the Mater Hospital.

It is always great to hear such positive feedback, especially consistently across so many services

This feedback is very much appreciated by us as it is one of the ways that we can be assured that the level of care we provide is in line with the high standards we aim to achieve.

I will pass this feedback onto Calvin who always goes above and beyond for his patients so it's great for that to recognised. He is an invaluable member of our Mater team who will appreciate the acknowledgement.

I will ensure that the BHSCT Physiotherapy Senior Management Team are also made aware of your feedback and wish you all the best for your ongoing recovery
