My dad was in terrible unbearable pain. He has a long long history of back nerve and muscle pain. He suffers pain 24/7 and just gets on with life as best as he can. He takes multiple medications to control pain including morphine.
One morning recently at 3am he was awake with a severe different kind of pain. When I seen him at 8am he was crawling along the floor in tears. Now I've seen my dad in pain most of my life and we knew this was different and serious. After speaking with the surgery they called an ambulance. That arrived pretty quick but we felt the paramedics were not really interested in the new pain and were focusing on his pain history. They were not overly concerned. However after chatting to us and then seeing my dad in severe pain, sweating, shaking they agreed to take him.
When he was seen by the triage nurse at Wishaw A&E, they were extremely rude and told him he shouldn't be there and should see his doctor as it's an ongoing problem. I feel that is not an acceptable way to speak to any patient who's in severe pain and needing help.
The horror stories about the NHS are getting more and more and it's getting to the stage where I don't really trust them.
It turns out he has kidney stones and was still in hospital 7 hrs later waiting on a scan.
Really disappointed in our nhs.
