"Doctors receptionist being very aggressive to sick patients"

About: General practices in Lanarkshire

(as a service user),

I suffer from severe fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis and depression. I asked if I could pick my medicine up the morning it was due as I was going away, I said not early as it’s a controlled drug. But it was done early and now I’m being reviewed by the doctor about my pain medication. The receptionist every time I call doesn’t ask my name and tells me they're far too busy to deal with me then hangs up. I feel I'm being portrayed as a drug seeker by them and they have caused me severe anxiety and pain. I don’t know what to do, I’m scared to phone. I’m scared, I’m being treated like a drug addict, now I’m devastated as my medication allows me to cope with daily tasks but I’m going to be left just existing not living. I’m terrified, feeling hopeless, scared, painful disease.

Dear Scated patient,

Thank you for sharing your experience of your GP practice.

I am sorry to hear of the issues you are having with your GP practice. I can only imagine how frustrating and worrying it must be when you are experiencing issues with getting your prescription.

Unfortunately, GP’s are independent contractors and are responsible for investigating and responding to any concerns a person may have about the service; they are not registered to respond directly to feedback through Care Opinion. Please could I ask that you contact the practice manager so they can investigate your concerns.

Kind Regards,

Elise
