My health visitor, Hayley, has been amazing since the minute I met her. After a traumatic birth she immediately realised I was struggling mentally and physically. She recognised the signs of post-partum depression and took it seriously from the start.
Hayley made the appropriate referrals, came for extra visits and organised the right support. One of the support methods she organised for me was the walking group with health visitor Natasha. This really helped me get out of the house and meet other mums in the early days.
Natasha was always so welcoming and seeing a health visitor informally every week to answer all the questions I had when I felt like I didn’t know what to do with my baby.
Another support Hayley organised for me was baby massage sessions in my house with child health assistant, Lisa. Lisa helped me bond with my baby, something which i struggled with after a traumatic birth and seperation from my baby while readmitted to hospital. It was amazing to have this service in my house especially after a tough physical recovery and not being able to attend baby classes in the first few months.
The support these girls have provided has been amazing and I think my story would have a very different ending if this support hadn’t been made available to me.
