"Awful treatment"

About: Whiston Hospital

Waters broke on the Monday went in after being unable to get comfortable and was sat on the toilet with the urge to push all night. Sent home 5 times being told ‘come back when you can’t talk then you’ll be in labour the pain will be so severe’ sent home then told if came back I’d get induced so I said just induce me was booked for 11am the next day (3 days after my waters had broke) and was found to have a temp over 40 and rushed to the delivery suite where the babies head could be seen and I was fully dilated (like I’d been saying for days) never got to the stage where couldn’t talk and the contractions never reached painful but had a traumatic experience which ended in a third degree tear and an episiotomy and forceps all because to be in labour “you can’t talk you’re in so much pain”. Was even asked if I’m sure hadn’t urinated and it wasn’t my waters? have no confidence in the midwife service here but the surgery team were great. After giving birth at 7pm ( arrived at 11) had had no food and asked for some toast was starving after labour, being awake for hours and then surgery and was told no but could have a sandwich which was ham. Explained I’m vegetarian and told there’s nothing they have. So the day went over 48 hours without food. begrudge coming back again for any subsequent pregnancies.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback about your recent experience with our Maternity services. You have describe an experience that is unacceptable and falls short of the service we aim to provide. We want the opportunity to investigate this matter but to enable us to do this, we require your details and the specific date and time you were in hospital, this will not affect your ongoing care. Please get in touch with team on patientexperienceandedi@sthk.nhs.uk and someone will help you.
