"The staff are absolutely great here"

About: Cancer Services / Radiotherapy

(as the patient),

The staff are absolutely great here - they accommodate any changes. Last week I was running late for my appointment and was getting quite stressed on the bus, but when I phoned the department to let them know, Bob put me at ease, told me to chill and re-arranged my time. The radiotherapy staff in the clinics are good too - it always amazes me how flexible they are with the timings of appointments, especially in view of the numbers of patients they are dealing with. I have been asked to take an earlier appointment when there was a free spot, which was great and meant I could get an earlier bus home.

Transport is my main problem - coming from where I live, buses are not reliable for getting to Ninewells on time. Tomorrow, I need to use a bus, leaving over 3 hours before my appointment and then have about an hour to hang around before being seen.

My only very small issue is that in winter it is sometimes a bit cold in the waiting room - but I can put a jacket on!

Dear Sherab1, thank you for taking the time to feedback your experience of our Radiotherapy Department. My name is Bob (who you kindly mention), one of the Support Workers who would have helped you prepare for your treatments. I do understand your predicament regarding travel arrangements and having to spend the time waiting during your preparations. It is indeed a necessary evil but we do try to be as flexible as possible within the limits of our appointment system. I will pass on your kind comments to our Therapeutic Radiographers regarding their flexibility, thank you.

The design of our waiting area, with the high ceiling, does indeed mean that the waiting area is not overly warm. We do have some heaters that are employed during colder times and I note that even today, they are switched in an attempt to regulate the temperature.

On behalf of everyone here, I hope you benefit from your treatments and wish you well for the future.

Kind regards... Bob
