In late July my son woke up with severe stomach pain and nausea. My husband phoned our GP and got an appointment for that afternoon. We went up early because my son's pain was still quite bad and we were desperate to know what was wrong. The student doctor we had the appointment with took us early, assessed him, checked with senior GP and told us she thought he had a grumbling appendix and we were to go straight to hospital. She phoned ahead, gave us a letter to take and advised us not to eat or drink anything. When we arrived at Glasgow Children's Hospital we were triaged within about 15mins, and the first person we saw was an A&E Consultant. She assessed my son, agreed that it was probably his appendix and arranged a Surgical consultation. They arrived with about 20mins. The Surgeon agreed it was his appendix and we were admitted for an operation the following day as he showed no signs of infection or perforation of the appendix it wasn't an emergency. We were admitted to Ward 3B and the staff were absolutely fantastic. They got him started on a drip, got me bedding and were able to make us feel comfortable and answered my son's questions as it was all a bit of a shock! All of the staff we encountered were absolutely fantastic, the A&E Consultant was so nice and friendly and she explained everything really well to my son about what was going on, what they had to do and why. The Surgeon was the same, really made us feel calm about the upcoming operation and was really warm and friendly. Dr Hallet was the Surgical Consultant and him and the team were fantastic too. The surgeon who came to get consent forms filled out was brilliant- he answered my son's questions honestly but without scaring him and genuinely filled me with confidence. And I told him that! I had full confidence in him and Dr Hallet's team that the operation would go well and that Max would be fine. And he was. We were discharged the following day and the surgeon who saw us in A&E was the surgeon who discharged us so that was nice to thank her for all her help. I cannot praise all the staff we encountered highly enough! From the GP surgery to A&E to the ward the staff were outstanding. What a marvellous job they all do on a daily basis. I cannot thank them all enough for making the correct diagnosis and operating so quickly. My son was back to his normal self within a week and back playing football as soon as the glue came off the incisions- there was no stopping him! Many heartfelt thanks 🩷🩷🩷
