"I felt judged"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / Accident & Emergency

(as a service user),

I feel really disheartened and judged for making a decision to go to A&E.

I followed advice from 111 service to attend A&E. When I was seen at A&E I was treated very nicely on admission and then I met the doctor.  I have been receiving medical investigations now going on four years and currently awaiting an appointment for general surgery.

My health symptoms are difficult to control and I am trying to find a balance. The doctor I felt was rude to myself and extremely judgemental.

They asked me before even examining me who had told me to come to A&E. They told  me I would  no be getting admitted up the stairs. I heard them ask another member of staff if I had gone when I was leaving. They did not return to me for any aftercare, so I was unsure about taking my medication due to what was administered.

Also suffering from anxiety and low mood I found it difficult to even go to A&E but had no choice due to pain and chest pain.

I took advice from 111 and felt disgusted by the doctor's judgement.

They asked me if I smoke or smoke cannabis. I understand that questions are important but with my symptoms they should be about that not being judged from being a smoker or appearing at A&E.

I wanted help and felt like this doctor was rude in their manner to myself and I already feel really vulnerable in my current situation.

The first I have been upright was for this visit to A&E, I have been off work going on four weeks

I had no expectation (another question I was asked ) except to get medical help from qualified professionals, not judged.
