"I went in crying and came out laughing"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / Gastroenterology

(as the patient),

While driving in I felt very nervous, overwhelmed and worried. I'd had some family illness recently which had lead to me overthinking. I wasn't overly worried about the actual procedure itself, more about why I was there and the results.

So when the charge nurse (I'm so annoyed that I can't remember her name) came to take me into the examination room, I just burst into tears. Mortified but I couldn't stop. She took me through to Kirsty who was to do the actual examination and right away they put me at ease. Kirsty listened to my worries and then explained why I was there, what the examination entailed, how common this is and any other questions I had.

The actual examination itself was pain free and not that uncomfortable. Kirsty talked me through everything as she was doing it while the charge nurse stood beside me and had a blether. They were honestly both lovely and made the whole experience so much better than I had imagined it was going to be.

I can honestly say the whole process from start to finish was quick, painfree and fully explained from start to finish. I went in crying and came out laughing thanks to those two wonderful women. Thanks so much.

I had a slight, very light discharge afterwards for about 5 days which very quickly disappeared but other than that I would never have known I had anything done.

Dear Overthinker

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us. We're sorry to hear that you were feeling nervous and overwhelmed before your procedure, especially given your recent family illness, but we're so pleased that our team was able to provide the support and reassurance you needed.

It's wonderful to hear how the charge nurse and Kirsty helped put you at ease, listened to your concerns, and fully explained the process. We understand how important it is to feel informed and supported, and we're glad the examination was a positive experience for you.

Your kind words about the care you received are deeply appreciated, and we'll ensure that they are passed on to the staff involved, It's feedback like this that helps remind our teams of the positive impact they can have during what can be a worrying time for patients.

Kind regards

Kevin
