About: Mater Hospital / Accident & Emergency

(as a service user),

I recently become very unwell and had to visit the Mater A&E after contacting the phone first number. I was in a lot of pain and I was also worried and scared.

The staff were amazing. They were very helpful and clearly explained everything to me. I needed to be admitted to ward D and again staff were so warm and caring. Each staff member made sure to introduce themselves to me and always called me by my first name. I have had previously experiences in other hospital and this was the best experience I have had.

I observed staff both in A&E and ward D interacting so positively with each other, offering to help out when their work was completed and overall there was a very good morale between staff.

The medical doctor that I seen in A&E was so kind and very clear in describing what scans were needed and what these entailed and the medical consultant who I had come under the care of took time to explain to me all options and I trusted her decisions as I know that she was making sure that I would not be discharged until I was feeling better.

Dear AM10

Thank you so much for taking the time to tell us about your experience while on ward D at the Mater. Our nursing staff are always so grateful and happy to hear of a positive experience. They will be delighted to hear and read how you saw that the staff worked well as a team and how you had experienced such amazing person centred care. As a manager of ward D staff, It does my heart good to hear how this has been your best experience and to read this compliment about our amazing helpful staff. Very often I find that our staff are so busy that they seldom find the time to sit and explain fully the care and treatment to the patient. So thank you again for your kind words.

I do hope your pain has settled and that you are keeping well and that you have since been discharged home

Take care

Bernie Carey

Hi

Thankyou for taking the time to write about your positive experience in both ED and Ward D.

I hope by now you are making a speedy recovery.

I will pass on your kind comments to our staff who work extremely hard under very stressful conditions.

Thanks again
