"Patients vaping on the ward"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Neurosurgery (Ward 64 – 66)

(as a relative),

While a relative of mine has been in ward 65 in the Queen Elizabeth University hospital in Glasgow, unfortunately we have witnessed patients on the ward using a vape device, in full view of nursing staff!

The nurse in charge was approached by another relative to make a complaint and was told that they can’t stop this happening! Surely this can’t be the case, that very ill patients have to tolerate this sort of behaviour? As far as I can see, the hospital has a very clear policy regarding smoking or vaping on the premises. What’s the point if it’s not being enforced?

Dear Very Impressed

Thank you for getting in touch via Care Opinion.

As you have mentioned NHSGGC has a Smokefree Policy, and people should not be smoking or vaping inside hospital grounds or near entrances and exits. Vaping in wards is not acceptable and please accept my apologies. Please be assured that the vapes were removed from the patient.

This issue has been highlighted to the Senior Management Team and discussed with the ward staff to ensure this does not happen again. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Kind Regards

Nicole
