Recently I had been aware of changes in bowel motions, plus pain to muscle and bone in upper left arm and shoulder. Eight years ago I was diagnosed with an enlarged prostate and then subsequently prostate cancer undergoing radiotherapy at the Sunrise Centre, RCH, Truro, Cornwall. So I was aware of what these changes could signify, namely a reoccurrence of the cancer.
I had a significant discharge of blood through my penis. Contacting NHS 111 I was advised to contact my Doctor's Surgery immediately. The following morning I was able to speak to the practice (Carn to Coast, Pool, Redruth, Cornwall). On being triaged by phone I was seen within six hours at Trevithick Surgery, Camborne. A thorough examination was carried out and tests done.
I was referred to Penzance hospital where a ultrascan and cystoscopy were carried out. Before leaving the hospital I was given all clear results. Trevithick Surgery called me saying their test results were also clear. The consensus of opinion is that it was long term after effects of the radiotherapy.
Praise of the highest order to the NHS for the professionalism at all levels in bringing such a rapid diagnosis to a worrying sets of events.
"Had my cancer returned?"
