"Rude and disrespectful"

About: Community Services / Winchester Rural South District Nursing

(as a relative),

A member of staff came in and spoke to the patient rudely and abruptly then when carers arrived to carry out their job was rude in the way they spoke to them. I wasn't impressed how they seemed to disrespect the carers for following their rules and regulations, then abruptly ordering relative about. Not helpful in sorting out anything I needed help with. Then taking a personal call while in the middle of a conversation about patient to relative.

I am the consultant for the Mid Hampshire Urgent Community Response service. Looking after individuals at home instead of hospital when it is safe to do so.

Thank you so much for taking the time to send us your feedback. I am so sorry that the service you received was not as we would expect it to be. Disrespecting anyone is just not acceptable. I have raised your story with the team lead for the Winchester District Nursing Team and also the Clinical Service Manager for Winchester and Andover.

I will ensure that they also reply and in the mean time if you wanted to reach out to me please do email me

abigail.barkham@southernhealth.nhs.uk

Thank you

Abby

Thank you for using Care Opinion to share your feedback. I am sorry you have had this experience, this is not how we would want any of our patients, carers or relatives to feel. We work very closely with carers and value the relationships we have with them and respect highly the care that they provide.

In this modern world we are often using our mobile phones, we all have work phones that we use for all our notes and assessments. It may be that members of staff have to take work related calls or urgent family calls. It would be expected that they excuse themselves from the room to take this. I will feed this back to the team to remind them of this.

If you feel this needs discussion further; katherine.angold@southernhealth.nhs.uk.

Thank you,

Katherine
